American Horror Story – Episode 3 – Murder House

So we are now on episode 3 of American Horror Story. This was a good episode and the series has kept my attention thus far. I always want next week to come sooner so I can watch the next episode. I still have some questions unanswered though.

Spoiler Alert: I will be discussing some plot points from episode 3, so if you don’t want them revealed, stop reading.

So I liked how we found out how Moira was killed. I knew that it was at the hands of Constance, but it appeared to have taken place in the house that the Harmons now reside in. I am still a little confused if Constance is in fact a ghost herself or not. After she kills her husband and Moira I thought she was going to shoot herself with the gun, but that did not happen. Also the real estate agent sees Constance out walking her dogs, so I may be wrong that she a ghost.

Now on to my one main issue with this episode. I understand that Vivian wants to move out of the house, but we all know that will not happen. I mean if they did that then they would not have a show as the house appears to be what is causing all the horrific incidents to happen.

Now on to Ben Harmon’s  sleep walking type episodes. I am still wondering what happened with him and his new patient when he woke up in the yard with blood on his hands. I like that Moira was cleaning up the blood for him, but I think she did do something with the voice recorder (which the police office shows up with it on his second visit). The only thing I find odd is that Vivian is in the next scene and it was not explained if she was in the house at the time the incident may have occurred. I feel that if she was there then she probably would have heard something. We do find out later on in the episode that it appears that the new patient slit her own wrists during the session when Ben was not paying attention. We do not find out what happened to her. Finally right near the end of the episode we find out that Ben had been getting drugged by laudanum and he thinks Moira did it. So maybe this explains the sleep walking type episodes he had been having.

Now the second time this sleep walking type episode happens to Ben, Constance is there in the backyard and I was curious of why Ben had the shovel. I then remember as Constance is trying to deter Ben from digging in the yard, that she, Moira and Tate buried the two bodies from the home invasion there. I am just curious what else could possibly be buried in the backyard as well.

I liked the touch of the ghost tour that has the Harmons’ house as the highlight of the tour and called it the ‘Murder House’. It made me chuckle that Vivian goes on the tour after she sees it drive by her house one day. Now during the tour we hear about the Doctor who built the house for himself and his wife. The doctor gets forced by hard times to start performing abortions in the late 1920’s. We do not get to hear the climatic ending because before the tour guide reveals that information, Vivian has to abruptly get off the tour because she starts bleeding from between her legs. But not to be too concerned as her doctor tells her it was not a miscarriage. I do find it interesting that the doctor’s wife shows up later on in the episode asking to view the house since it is on the market. She had a huge gash on the back of her head that was revealed, so I bet she had an untimely demise. I will be curious to find out more in later episodes.

Finally, we knew from the last episode that Ben’s former fling is pregnant and does not go through with the abortion. She shows up wanting Ben to pay for her to stay in California. I like how at the end of the episode that Denis O’hare, the guy with the half-burned face, attacks her and kills her. Ben does not defend her and when Denis goes to bury her body in the backyard Ben does not object. In fact he pours cement and builds a gazebo over where she is buried. Now that he is part of murder in that house, I do not think he will ever be able to leave.

Next week’s episode from the preview look like a Halloween episode. I am excited to see that Zachary Quinto shows up for a brief moment in the preview.
